# Amdion > Amdion is a calm, open-source attention layer for macOS. It helps you see where > your attention goes on your computer and gently take it back — so you're driving, > not being driven. Everything stays on your device. Amdion is two halves that connect over a private localhost bridge: - **Desktop app (Sense)** — a menu-bar app summoned with ⌃⇧A. You name what you're here to do (your intent), and it keeps an honest, private record of where your time goes. Review it in "Today" and export to CSV or JSON. No dock icon, no window to manage. - **Chrome extension (Defend)** — a companion that always tracks your browsing and, when you ask, applies the friction you choose on distracting sites. ## Three modes (Defend) - **Off** — track only; no friction. - **Nudge** — a quiet in-page card appears on distracting sites. - **Block** — distracting sites redirect to a calm page. ## Intent sets the mode When the desktop app is connected and you set an intent, it picks the mode for you: - Deep work → Block - Communication → Nudge - Exploration → Off A manual toggle is a session-scoped override; the next session returns to your intent. ## Key facts - Platform: macOS 10.15+ and Google Chrome. - Price: free and open source. - Privacy: no accounts, no cloud, no analytics. All data is stored locally on your Mac. - It is not an OS replacement and not a browser you live inside — it's an attention layer. - Distribution today: build from source (needs Rust and Node.js 18+). A signed, notarized one-click installer and a Chrome Web Store listing are planned. ## Links - Website: https://amdion.org - Source code (GitHub): https://github.com/vroy2008/amdion-computer
